An academic career is a goal for many of us working as postdocs today and to achieve this we will have to go through the faculty application process. To help Western Postdocs understand this process, PAW has developed a series of workshop panels that will looks at all the documents in an Academic Job application package and what search committees expect when they read these documents.

Each workshop will look at a single document in turn and feature a panel of faculty with experience of sitting on search committees who will share their advice and expectations.

  • Dr. Anthony Skelton - Department of Philosophy
  • Dr. Perry Klein – Faculty of Education
  • Dr. Brian Corneil - Physiology and Pharmacology
  • Dr. Rachel Heydon – Faculty of Education

More than ever, we are aware of the inequities that exist for underrepresented groups like women, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, and others. It continues to be the responsibility of those within these research spaces to ensure that we allow equitable access for participation from these groups, and additionally, to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone to thrive.

The session will include education on the basic concepts of EDI, and we will work through principles and best practices of equity and inclusion, and how these can be applied in the lab and research environment. Additionally, we will also address the upcoming EDI requirements for academic positions and research grants (e.g. NSERC, CIHR, SSHRC). If you are applying for any upcoming academic positions or research grants, we will have opportunities for Q&A after the presentation to discuss these.

Sponsored by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) and the Postdoctoral Association at Western.
